A citizen was injured after being crushed by a collapsed glass wall at a restaurant operated by a famous chef and subsequently sued the chef for not providing a settlement. According to TV Chosun, on the 5th, a woman, referred to as Ms. A, was injured with a four-week recovery prognosis after being struck by the glass wall of the restaurant. The restaurant is operated by a celebrity chef known from TV. The issue is that the restaurant did not provide a settlement, leading to legal action and a police investigation.
CCTV footage revealed that Ms. A was struck directly by the glass wall while walking with an umbrella, causing her to fall. A bystander rushed to help and took her to an ambulance. Ms. A, in her 40s, suffered bruises across her body and was diagnosed with injuries requiring four weeks of recovery.
The incident occurred because the glass wall was not properly secured at the time. The chef, identified as a suspect, was questioned by the police twice. The failure to agree on a settlement for medical expenses led to the lawsuit.
The chef’s attorney stated, “We asked the victim’s side for a reasonable basis for the claimed damages.” Meanwhile, the victim’s lawyer commented, “It seemed like seeking approval from a supervisor.” The settlement amount requested by the victim’s side was 3.8 million won.
Amidst this, there are allegations that the “famous chef” in question might be Lee Chan-oh, former husband of Kim Sae-rom. The restaurant is identified as Manuterrace, run by Chef Lee.
Currently, reviews for Manuterrace include negative comments like “Avoid this place if you don’t want to be in trouble” and criticisms of not paying the 3.8 million won settlement despite the potential severity of the incident. The restaurant has also been subjected to “star rating terrorism,” with many giving it the lowest ratings.
Lee Chan-oh, born in 1984 and now 41 years old, married Kim Sae-rom in 2015 but divorced 16 months later in December 2016. In October the following year, he was caught trying to smuggle a highly hallucinogenic substance, hashish, through international mail at Incheon International Airport. Though he initially denied ownership, a positive urine test led him to admit partial guilt in its use.
During the trial, he claimed his ex-wife’s selfish behavior and alcohol-induced violence caused him depression and panic disorders, receiving criticism for these claims. At his appeal, the court upheld a sentence of three years in prison, suspended for four years.
Later, Lee stated, “I have served my time as per the Seoul High Court’s verdict. I am truly sorry and grateful to those who have waited. I am very disappointed in myself and have done a lot of reflection. I will strive to be a new person moving forward.”
