The floor leaders of the People Power Party and the Democratic Party will meet under the hosting of Speaker Woo Won-shik.
After the “2025 National Provincial Party and Party Member Council Key Official Training” at the National Assembly on the 17th, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, met with reporters and explained, “We wanted to hold a meeting of the two party floor leaders under the speaker’s initiative today, but since the Democratic Party had a scheduling conflict, we agreed to meet at 11 a.m. on the 18th.”
Regarding the question of whether there is a plan to push for a resolution at the National Assembly level accepting the impeachment ruling against President Yoon Suk-yeol, floor leader Kwon stated, “Whether our party and the Democratic Party leaders gather together or release a statement, we agree to everything.”
He further expressed, “We have shown this level of intention, and if the Democratic Party responds, it will proceed smoothly.”
Concerning the opinion that President Yoon should personally convey a message of accepting the Constitutional Court’s decision, he stated, “I believe the President will make his own judgment.”
In response to the Democratic Party’s move to push a resolution urging the withdrawal of the U.S. government’s sensitive country designation in the National Assembly, he replied, “Since it’s a diplomatic issue, it’s important to respond in a bipartisan manner and cooperate. There’s no reason to oppose.”
In this meeting, apart from the acceptance of the impeachment ruling of President Yoon, it is expected that the floor leaders of both parties will discuss issues concerning the people’s livelihood, such as pension reform, the formulation of an additional budget, and the handling of the Semiconductor Special Act.
