The first ‘awards ceremony selfie’ at the Olympics turns out to be a work by Samsung… Impressive.

In the opening ceremony of the Olympics, with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Z Flip6 was handed over to more than 17,000 athletes. In cooperation with the IOC, selfie-taking on the podium was allowed, and athletes captured their winning moments with Z Flip6.

In the Paris Olympics, not only our team but also Samsung Electronics’ first AI smartphone product is actively used as the “national representative” at various locations on-site.

According to Samsung Electronics on the 29th, the Galaxy Z Flip6 was distributed to over 17,000 participating athletes before the start of the Olympics. The distributed product to the athletes was the ‘Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition’, a special edition with the Olympic and Paralympic emblems and Samsung logo engraved on the yellow color model of Z Flip6.

Samsung Electronics provided Z Flip6 to athletes from various countries to communicate without language barriers and share the excitement of the Olympic event with sports fans worldwide. Samsung Electronics MX Business Marketing Team Leader Cho Seung-eun, said, “We hope that athletes will share the excitement of the Olympics live with fans around the world through Galaxy AI, creating a unique Olympic experience that has never been seen before.”

During the opening ceremony of the Olympics, the Galaxy S24 Ultra model vividly captured the parade. Samsung Electronics installed over 200 Galaxy S24 Ultra on boats entering the stadium along the Seine River to ensure that the opening ceremony site would be fully covered remotely.

At the medal ceremony, athletes were seen taking photos with the Z Flip6 Olympic Edition. In the mixed air gun 10m team event, where Korea won its first medal, Park Ha-jun and Kim Ji-hyun took photos with athletes from China and Kazakhstan who won the gold and silver medals on the podium using Z Flip6.

Previously, all personal belongings, including mobile phones, were prohibited at Olympic medal ceremonies. Only official media members were allowed to capture shots from a distance. However, through collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Samsung Electronics introduced the ‘Victory Selfie’ program, allowing athletes to take photos directly with Z Flip6 on the podium for the first time in Olympic history. After the medal presentation, Olympic volunteers hand Z Flip6 to the athletes.

Photos taken with the ‘Victory Selfie’ are synchronized in real-time with the ‘Athlete 365’ application provided in the Olympic Edition distributed to athletes. Athletes can download or share photos directly using the app.

Brazil’s silver medalist in women’s street skateboarding, Haíssa Léal, expressed, “It was a moment where I could feel camaraderie beyond competition by taking victory selfies with medalists who demonstrated sportsmanship during the competition on the podium.”

In the swimming event, Kim Woo-min, who won a medal 12 years after Park Tae-hwan, also took selfies with other athletes using Z Flip6. After winning the first gold medal for Korea, fencer Oh Sang-wook also captured the excitement of the scene with Z Flip6.

The Z Flip6 Olympic Edition is displayed at the ‘Samsung Olympic Experience Hall’ on Champs-Elysées Street in Paris.
