Kim Byung-joo, a senior member of the Democratic Party, stated that the party would take strong actions, such as impeaching the Minister of Defense, if the government dispatches troops to the Ukraine war without parliamentary consent through indirect means. During the party’s senior council meeting today, Kim mentioned, “Sending even one person abroad is tantamount to a troop dispatch,” emphasizing that various legal measures would be considered if the government proceeds without parliamentary approval.
Kim also pointed out that the government is trying to bypass parliamentary consent by labeling the dispatch as a ‘monitoring team’ or ‘observer team,’ arguing that sending such a team would bring the flames of the Ukraine war to the Korean Peninsula.
Another senior member, Lee Eun-joo, warned against involvement in another country’s war, saying it endangers citizens’ lives and would not be forgiven. She further cautioned that the people, as sovereigns, could withdraw their delegation of power.
