The Democratic Party plans to address the ‘Yoon Impeachment Bill’ on the 7th… Also pushing for a permanent special investigation into treason.

The Democratic Party of Korea is planning to process the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol in a National Assembly session on December 7. They have accused President Yoon of committing “treason” for declaring martial law and are also pursuing a permanent special investigation into the matter.

Cho Seung-rae, the chief spokesperson of the Democratic Party, stated that the decision to vote on the impeachment motion will occur after 7 PM on December 7. The schedule is being coordinated with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik. The impeachment proposal, supported by six opposition parties, including the Democratic Party, was reported in a plenary session on December 4. According to procedure, a vote must occur within 24 to 72 hours after the report, making it possible after midnight on December 6.

Cho explained that choosing December 7 as the date allows time for public consideration and gives members of the People Power Party (PPP) time to contemplate their political decisions regarding what the Democratic Party views as unconstitutional and illegal attempts at a coup or rebellion. Furthermore, he urged PPP Representative Han Dong-hoon to support the impeachment if he does not agree with unconstitutional martial law, as a true political leader and legal professional would.

Additionally, the Democratic Party is planning to push forward a special investigation related to the treason charges with the goal of clearing it by December 10. They also plan to handle the “Kim Gun-hee Special Prosecutor Law,” which is set for a re-vote due to the president’s veto, during the December 10 plenary session. The Democratic Party is currently holding a general assembly meeting to discuss these matters.
