President Yoon Suk-yeol’s side criticized the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) for delegating the execution of an arrest warrant, questioning, “Is this some kind of subcontracting work?” Yoon’s legal representative, Attorney Yoon Gap-geun, told News1 on the 6th, “It’s not even about handing over an investigation, and without command authority, how can they transfer the execution of a warrant?” He pointed this out as “lawlessness and an admission of unlawful investigation.”
The CIO announced that morning that they had sent an official document the previous day (5th) delegating the execution of the arrest warrant for President Yoon to the National Investigation Headquarters. The National Investigation Headquarters is reviewing the legal issues surrounding this request internally.
Earlier, on the 3rd, a collaborative team comprised of the CIO and the police jointly executed an arrest warrant. Typically, the CIO is the body responsible for executing warrants. However, the police, part of the joint investigation team for the December 3rd martial law incident, also dispatched officers to provide support.
During the execution of the warrant, there were opinions within the police that those, including Security Chief Park Jong-joon, who were obstructing the execution should be arrested on the spot. However, it is known that the CIO, concerned about escalating into a conflict due to their numerical disadvantage, opposed this.
Office Chief Oh Dong-woon of the CIO arrived at the Government Complex in Gwacheon that morning without making any statements.
