On the 21st at 2 PM, President Yoon Suk-yeol plans to attend the impeachment trial hearing, and police have set up barricades and strengthened security in front of the Constitutional Court in Jongno-gu, Seoul. Tensions are running high in the area from early morning as President Yoon announced his intention to appear in person at the hearing. From the morning, police buses gathered around Anguk Station and the vicinity of the Japanese Embassy near the Constitutional Court. About 20 police vehicles lined up along the fence of the court, with two out of the four lanes in front of the court being blocked by bus barricades.
A double police line was established at the main entrance of the court, with three police buses creating a barricade inside the entrance. Supporters who announced they would gather nearby at 1 PM numbered around 10 as of 8 AM. However, with supporters and YouTubers encouraging each other online to “gather at the court,” it is anticipated that more demonstrators will arrive soon. The police are maintaining a vigilant watch, recalling that supporters of President Yoon caused a violent disturbance at the Seoul Western District Court on the 19th after his arrest warrant was issued.
Police units have been deployed in various areas, including the main gate and the back wall of the Constitutional Court. Officers have been seen holding A4 papers, discussing strategies to prepare for potential clashes. A total of 64 police units, approximately 4,000 personnel, have been assigned to the vicinity of the court.
