The case involving former Army Intelligence Commander No Sang-won, who was charged with violating the Personal Information Protection Act by Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-seok investigating the December 12th Coup and Martial Law, has been merged with his “promotion request bribery” case.
The Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement Division 21 (Chief Judge Lee Hyun-bok), which is handling No’s Personal Information Protection Act violation case, announced today (the 3rd) that it has merged it with the case of receiving bribes under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Prevention of Illegal Solicitation.
Last month on the 27th, No was additionally indicted by the coup special prosecutor for receiving personal and military information about intelligence personnel from former Army Intelligence Commander Moon Sang-ho, allegedly for selecting members of the ‘2nd Investigation Team’ to investigate election fraud suspicions in civilian status.
Previously, No had already been indicted in May for soliciting promotions on behalf of active-duty soldiers and receiving money in return (bribery).
The case was initially scheduled to have its first trial on the 18th under Judge Ryu Kyung-jin of the Criminal Division 10 of the Central District Court, but this has been delayed due to the case merger.
The special prosecutor’s team, alongside the additional indictment, requested further detention in court and also requested the consolidation of the court proceedings from the coup charges being heard in the Criminal Agreement Division 25 (Chief Judge Ji Gui-yeon) of the Central District Court.
