[Sports Chosun, Reporter Kim So-hee] Taiwanese top actress Seo Hee-won’s passing has led to the spread of false news about her husband Koo Jun-yup on the internet.
According to Taiwanese media reports on the 19th, rumors circulated online in Taiwan stating that Koo Jun-yup returned to Korea before Seo Hee-won’s funeral was completely concluded.
The rumors suggested that Seo Hee-won’s burial took place on the 14th, and it usually takes 10-15 days for the funeral to be fully completed. However, it was alleged that Koo Jun-yup hastily left Taipei for Korea with 32kg of luggage on the morning of the 15th before the funeral was over.
The rumors went into specific details, claiming Koo wore a beige coat and took flight KE716 from Taipei to Seoul. Allegedly, he appeared visibly thinner, with a troubled and confused expression, keeping his head down and lips trembling slightly.
Additionally, details were mentioned about his luggage and airplane seat. The two pieces of luggage he checked in were reportedly wrapped in tape, and it was claimed Koo sat alone, avoiding people’s gaze, in a corner of the plane shielded by a curtain.
However, this was revealed to be false news. Seo Hee-won’s funeral is still ongoing, and there was no record of flight KE716 from Taipei to Korea on the 15th. The photo circulating with the rumor was identified as an old picture from when Koo arrived in Taiwan a few years ago.
Koo Jun-yup is currently reported to be in Taipei, handling postmortem arrangements and related legal procedures for Seo Hee-won.
Previously, on February 6th, Koo expressed his grief by stating, “On February 2, 2025, my angel returned to heaven,” and shared his indescribable sorrow and pain, saying, “I feel like my guts are being torn apart. I have no strength or desire to speak.”
He also addressed rumors about Seo Hee-won’s inheritance, stating, “The precious legacy left by Hee-won, which she gathered through hard work to protect her loving family during her lifetime, will entirely be entrusted to my mother-in-law.”
Despite Koo’s suffering and pleas, rumors and false news causing them distress continue to spread.
Earlier, Seo Hee-won passed away from a flu accompanied by pneumonia during a family trip to Japan on February 2nd. She was 48 years old. Her ashes arrived in Taiwan on February 5th after cremation in Japan, and she was laid to rest in a woodland cemetery on the 14th.
Seo Hee-won, a beloved actress in Taiwan, announced her marriage to Koo Jun-yup in 2022, receiving congratulations from many. The couple, who dated for a year in 1998 but broke up due to agency opposition, reunited after 20 years, drawing significant support for their seemingly fate-driven story. Her sudden passing has prompted both local and international fans to express their condolences.
