Yang Jeong-moo, a preliminary candidate from the People Power Party, is scheduled to register on the 15th. [Jeonju=Newsis] Reporter Choi Jeong-gyu reported that candidates for the governorship of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and for the superintendent of Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province completed their registrations in the lead-up to the June 3rd local elections.
On the 14th, the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Election Commission saw the first registrations, with the superintendent candidates leading the way. Cheon Ho-seong was the first to register, stating, “Jeonbuk faces one of the toughest educational environments,” and highlighting the breakdown of educational communities and the pressures on students and teachers. He pledged to revitalize Jeonbuk’s education and invigorate the region through educational reforms.
Likewise, candidate Lee Nam-ho quickly followed suit with his registration. Lee emphasized his aim to usher in an era of “Academic Growth 3.0 through practicality and inclusivity,” aspiring to transform Jeonbuk into a region that attracts young people.
All candidates for governor registered, except Yang Jeong-moo of the People Power Party. Democratic Party candidate Lee Won-taek declared this moment a pivotal chapter in Jeonbuk’s post-liberation history, asserting the need for a united front with the Democratic Party to leverage governmental support for transformative development in the region.
Independent candidate Kim Kwan-young reiterated the importance of the public’s final decision in democracy, including the selection of Jeonbuk’s governor. He expressed confidence in the power of public opinion over organizational strength, pledging to honor the will of the people for Jeonbuk’s future.
Progressive Party candidate Baek Seung-jae criticized the dominant party monopoly in Jeonbuk politics, stressing the need for at least 10% of the vote to meaningfully counterbalance the Democratic Party’s influence and promising active campaigning on the ground.
