(Sunchang = News1) Reporter Yoo Seung-hoon – Jeonbuk Sunchang County announced on the 23rd that it would provide “High Oil Price Damage Compensation” to promote the stability of residents’ lives and revitalize the local economy.
This compensation will be provided to residents who are registered in Sunchang County as of March 30, 2026. The first recipients include those receiving basic livelihood security, lower-income groups, and single-parent families. The second round of recipients will include county residents within the lower 70% of the national income bracket.
The amounts are as follows: 600,000 KRW per person for basic livelihood recipients, 500,000 KRW for lower-income groups and single-parent families, and 250,000 KRW for those within the lower 70% of national income. An additional 50,000 KRW is included to reflect the characteristics of rural depopulation areas compared to ordinary areas.
The application schedule is as follows: 1st round – April 27 to May 8, and 2nd round – May 18 to July 3. Both rounds of compensation must be used by August 31.
Recipients can choose among credit/debit cards, prepaid cards, or local gift certificates for the payment method. Offline applications can be made at the administrative welfare centers in the jurisdiction of their registered address. Unnamed prepaid cards are issued immediately for on-site applications. A ‘visiting application service’ is also available for the elderly and people with disabilities.
The compensation can be used at stores affiliated with the local gift certificate program within Sunchang County. It is restricted from being used in entertainment and gambling industries, online e-commerce, taxes and public charges, and transportation and communication costs. It is available for use at small businesses with an annual revenue of 3 billion KRW or less.
A county official stated, “We hope that this High Oil Price Damage Compensation will help stabilize residents’ lives and support the recovery of the local economy amid challenging economic conditions.”
