The special envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeong Byeong-ha, who was dispatched to Iran, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on the afternoon of the 22nd (local time) to discuss issues including navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

On the 23rd, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Special Envoy Jeong urged continuous attention to the safety of around 40 of our citizens remaining in Iran and 26 of our ships and their crews trapped inside the Strait of Hormuz.

Particularly, Special Envoy Jeong emphasized the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and requested special cooperation from the Iranian side for the prompt and safe navigation of all ships, including ours.

Jeong also expressed hope for the swift restoration of peace and stability in the region through the resumption of negotiations between the United States and Iran concerning the Middle East situation.

Additionally, it was stated that countries should take a clear and firm stance to condemn crimes against Iranian nationals.

During his visit to Iran starting from the 11th, Special Envoy Jeong met with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Deputy Minister of Economy, and Director General for Consular Affairs, discussing bilateral relationship issues, as well as the need to ensure the safety of our nationals and the security of all ships and crews in the Strait of Hormuz, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
