Sinan County in South Jeolla Province has been selected for the ‘Rural Agreement’ project organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, marking the first time for a fishing village area.
Through this agreement, Sinan County announced on the 16th that they would be able to carry out rural regeneration projects over the next five years by investing up to 65.9 billion won in areas such as refurbishing outdated residential spaces, improving vulnerable areas, and creating specialized districts in the central revitalization areas (Aphae-eup, Jaeun-myeon, Amtae-myeon, Palgeum-myeon, and Anjwa-myeon).
Sinan County plans to establish a detailed project plan for the central living area in the second half of this year and will propose improvements to ensure that the type of projects specific to fishing villages are incorporated into the agreement. They also plan to officially sign the agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs early next year.
Sinan County emphasized, “This rural agreement will prove that restructuring rural spaces and improving living conditions are fully achievable even in regions centered around islands and fishing villages,” and added, “We will systematically plan to bring changes to the lives of island residents.”
