Seoul Yeonhui-dong sinkhole occurs… 1 vehicle overturned
Regular inspection section, no ‘void’ found in May inspection

“[Edaily Ha Sang-ryul reporter] Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 29th that it will investigate the cause and prepare measures in response to the sinkhole (ground subsidence) accident that occurred on the road in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu.

The city of Seoul stated, “We are currently investigating the situation on-site with relevant departments, experts, and analyzing the cause. We will analyze various factors such as nearby underground excavation projects, sewage pipelines, and formulate measures to prevent recurrence.”

Earlier on the same day at around 11:20 a.m., a sinkhole occurred on a road in Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, causing a sedan to fall into the hole and two people were injured and transported to the hospital.

One of the occupants in the vehicle, a 76-year-old woman named A, was transferred to the hospital after receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The driver, an 82-year-old man named B, was also transported due to injuries.

The city of Seoul stated, “As soon as the on-site investigation is completed to minimize inconvenience on the road section where the accident occurred, we will temporarily repair the road and confirm the ground stability before resuming traffic.”

The city of Seoul explained that the accident site is in a regularly inspected section, and during the inspection conducted last May, no void (empty space underground) was discovered.
