On the 10th, Lotte Concert Hall announced that it has selected pianist Cho Seong-jin as this year’s ‘Artist in Residence’.

The ‘Artist in Residence’ is a system operated by the Lotte Cultural Foundation at the Lotte Concert Hall since 2021. It involves selecting artists with distinct personalities to collaborate on concert planning and musical direction, providing wide-ranging support for their artistic activities.

Cho Seong-jin will perform on two occasions, July 14th and 19th. The concert on the 14th will feature a chamber music stage with musical colleagues invited by Cho himself. Top-level musicians such as Berlin Philharmonic’s concertmaster Daishin Kashimoto, principal clarinetist Wenzel Fuchs, and principal hornist Stefan Dohr will participate.

The performances will include chamber music works emblematic of Brahms, such as the Horn Trio in E-flat major, Clarinet Trio in A minor, and Piano Quartet No. 1 in G minor.

On the 19th, a recital showcasing Cho Seong-jin’s musical depth will take place. The program will consist of pieces spanning music history, including Bach’s ‘Partita No. 1 in B-flat major’, Schumann’s ‘Carnaval of Vienna’, and Chopin’s ’14 Waltzes’.

The Lotte Cultural Foundation highlighted that it is particularly meaningful for Cho Seong-jin to participate as the resident artist this year, marking the 10th anniversary of the Lotte Concert Hall’s opening. Since winning the Chopin International Piano Competition in 2015, Cho has continued his relationship with the hall by holding his first domestic recital there.

A foundation representative stated, “Through the Artist in Residence program, we aim to secure high-quality performance content and provide musicians with opportunities for further growth.”
