In a building rooftop near Gangnam Station in Seocho-gu, Seoul, a man suspected to be in his 20s, identified as A, has been arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend with a weapon. The man’s identity has been spreading online.
Starting with KBS yesterday, reports followed stating, “This man is confirmed to be a top scorer in the college entrance exam and is currently a medical school student in Seoul.” Afterwards, people discovered an interview article with a man with similar qualifications while searching for top-scoring medical students.
Concerns have been raised about indiscriminate disclosure of personal information. Along with reactions such as “What is the fault of his family and friends” and “Worries about even innocent individuals being harmed,” there are also concerns that the victim’s identity could be revealed in the process of spreading information.
Therefore, some are pointing out that since A is a serious criminal, the police should promptly initiate discussions on officially disclosing his identity.
The police have stated that even if the information about a violent criminal is disclosed through the Information Disclosure Review Committee, they will take strong measures against disclosing personal information about family or acquaintances, or posting defamatory comments online.
Earlier on the 6th, A was arrested by the police on suspicion of fatally attacking his girlfriend, B, with a weapon on the rooftop of a building near Gangnam Station around 5 p.m.
During police interrogation, A admitted to the allegations, stating that he committed the crime in anger after being told to break up. It was also revealed that he had purchased the weapon in advance and brought it to the scene.
