Rains fell in Seoul on the morning of the 26th, and citizens were seen walking with umbrellas near the stone wall road of Deoksugung Palace in Jung-gu, Seoul. The forecast predicts rain or snow in most regions across the country until Thursday, the 28th. It is expected that the first snow of the season will accumulate in central regions, including Seoul, on the 27th and 28th.
The Korea Meteorological Administration announced on the 26th that rain or snow would fall in most regions nationwide from the 27th to the morning of the 28th. In Gangwon’s central and southern inland and mountainous areas, and Gyeongbuk’s inland, precipitation is expected to continue until the afternoon of the 28th. Some areas like southern Gyeonggi, the Chungcheong region, and Jeolla region might experience rainfall or snowfall continuing into the night of the same day.
The expected snowfall from the 27th to 28th is estimated to be 3–8 cm in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi, 1–3 cm in the five West Sea islands, 5–10 cm in North Chungcheong, 1–5 cm in Daejeon, Sejong, and South Chungcheong, 3–10 cm in eastern North Jeolla, 5–15 cm in Gangwon’s inland and mountainous areas, 5–10 cm in the northeastern mountainous areas of North Gyeongsang, and 5–15 cm in mountainous areas of Jeju Island. Eastern Gyeonggi could see more than 10 cm, with more than 20 cm in Gangwon’s inland and mountainous areas and more than 15 cm in eastern North Jeolla.
In particular, heavy and dense snow of 1–3 cm per hour is expected from dawn to morning on the 27th in the metropolitan area, Chungbuk, eastern North Jeolla, and northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk. On the same night, Gangwon’s inland and mountainous areas, and Jeju’s mountainous regions, are expected to receive heavy snow. Additional strong snow is expected between the night of the 27th and the morning of the 28th in the metropolitan area, Gangwon’s inland and mountainous areas, inland areas in Chungcheong, eastern North Jeolla, and northern inland areas of North Gyeongsang from the cloud cover developing over the West Sea.
The predicted precipitation for the 27th to the 28th is 5–20 mm in Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi, Gangwon’s inland and mountainous areas, and North Chungcheong, 5–30 mm in Gwangju, Jeonnam, the five West Sea islands, Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, North Jeolla, and Jeju, and 5–10 mm in western inland of South Gyeongsang, Daegu, North Gyeongsang, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo.
The Korea Meteorological Administration advises pre-checking traffic conditions and thoroughly preparing winter equipment for vehicles due to the potential of vehicles being stranded in deep snow. Pedestrians should also pay attention to safety as roads, alleys, sloped roads, and shaded areas may accumulate snow or form icy patches.
Temperatures are predicted to remain low for some time, with strong winds lowering the perceived temperature further. Strong winds are expected across most regions until the 27th and along the coast of the Gyeongsang region until the 28th. Strong winds are forecast for the West Coast and Jeju Island during this period. On the 27th, gusts, thunder, and lightning are expected in central areas, and on the 28th, they are expected mainly on the West Coast.
