“Russian President Vladimir Putin stated at a gathering of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) leaders that the war in Ukraine is due to Western intervention, saying, ‘The root cause must be eliminated to resolve the crisis (war).’
On the 1st, local time, Russia’s TASS news agency reported that President Putin, in a speech at the 25th meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council held in Tianjin, China, said, ‘The crisis in Ukraine did not arise from Russia’s attack, but from a coup led by the West in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.’
He emphasized, ‘For the Ukraine agreement to be sustainable and long-term, the root of the crisis must be removed,’ and ‘a fair balance in the field of security needs to be restored.’
President Putin claimed, ‘The West’s attempt to include Ukraine in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) poses a direct threat to Russian security.’
He also mentioned his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska on the 15th of last month, evaluating that the understanding reached in this meeting opened the way for peace in Ukraine.
He further emphasized the role of the SCO, stating that the world order focusing on Europe and North America is being replaced by a ‘truly fair system.’
He added that the meeting of SCO member country government heads will be held in Moscow this November and that ‘the meeting will discuss concrete implementation plans related to the matters agreed upon at this SCO meeting.’
The SCO Summit, which opened the previous day, is a consultative group led by China and Russia, with 20 mostly anti-Western leaders, including President Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Iranian President Masoud Pejman, as well as representatives from 10 international organizations attending.”
