The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 23rd that the ‘National Science and Technology Advisory Council Act’ has been partially amended and promulgated on the 22nd. This amendment introduces a new category for the review by the presidential-affiliated National Science and Technology Advisory Council: ‘Policies for promoting international cooperation in science and technology.’
The Ministry of Science and ICT has been operating a ‘Global R&D Special Committee’ since January, under the advisory council, to respond to policy demands for international cooperation in science and technology. This committee includes five related ministries and private experts.
With this amendment, the Ministry of Science and ICT has established a legal basis for the advisory council to review and coordinate the international cooperation policies in science and technology developed by each ministry. The aim is to promote cooperation across departments regarding international collaboration in the field of science and technology.
The amended bill passed through the National Assembly’s plenary session on the 26th of last month and was subsequently sent to the government. It is scheduled to take effect six months after the promulgation date on the 22nd.
