The National Police Agency and KT announced on the 2nd that they are launching a crime prevention campaign utilizing Rich Communication Services (RCS) messages to raise awareness about new youth crimes such as false bomb threats and cyber gambling, which have been rapidly increasing recently.
Unlike traditional text messages, RCS messages can deliver a variety of information, including images. KT can segment customers who have consented to receive advertising messages based on their age group, interests, and financial consumption patterns using its own big data analysis, allowing them to target specific audiences.
Through this collaboration, the two organizations aim to send customized information to prevent new crimes to 200,000 students and parents nationwide. These are segmented by age, household type, and app usage patterns (such as SNS and games).
Starting with a message to prevent false bomb threats sent last month, the National Police Agency and KT plan to sequentially promote the prevention of cyber gambling, which is spreading rapidly among youths, and traffic crimes resulting from the illegal use of electric scooters and fixed-gear bicycles from this month.
Kim Ho-seung, Director of the Safety and Traffic Department at the National Police Agency, stated, “Cooperating with KT allows us to strategically promote awareness of changing youth crime risk factors and effective prevention methods,” emphasizing the need for societal attention to create a safe environment for youth to grow up properly.
Kim Young-geol, Head of KT’s Service Product Headquarters, added, “It is significant that we can deliver messages to prevent youth crime using KT’s big data,” and expressed his commitment to further contribute to creating a preventive environment to protect youths from various crimes in collaboration with the National Police Agency.
