Presidential office, Kim Gun-hee’s public appearances as the first lady “Plans to consistently··· Please see the sincerity”

The Presidential Office, regarding the increasing public activities of Kim Geon-hee, the spouse of President Yoon Suk-yeol, on the 12th said, “Please judge based on sincerity” and emphasized that they will continue to engage in activities caring for the vulnerable and underprivileged, and listening to the voices of those in difficulty. Despite the controversy, Kim’s public activities will continue.

A Presidential Office official stated that Kim’s activities are not a one-time event, but rather a continuous effort. They mentioned that it is inappropriate and excessive to politicize Kim’s actions. Kim Geon-hee has been increasing her public appearances, such as visiting Seoul’s Mapo Bridge on ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’ (September 10). Some opposition parties have criticized her, labeling her as the “First Lady of Yoon Suk-yeol’s administration.”

The official further stated that mental health is an issue President Yoon prioritizes, and the role of the First Lady includes listening to the voices from areas the President may not be able to reach. They explained that Kim Geon-hee is focusing on various volunteer activities for disadvantaged groups like suicide prevention and environmental cleaning. Kim is planning to continue volunteering and spreading warmth and kindness to the less fortunate during the Chuseok holiday.

President Yoon is scheduled to visit hospitals, police stations, fire stations, and military units during the Chuseok holiday. The Presidential Office spokesperson stated that the President will conduct field visits to oversee medical services, public safety, and national affairs. They mentioned that President Yoon, despite the holiday, will seek out those dedicating themselves for the nation and express appreciation and encouragement to them.

The spokesperson also criticized the formation of the ‘Yoon Suk-yeol Impeachment Preparation Member Unity’ by some lawmakers from political parties opposing the government. They questioned the intentions behind these actions and highlighted the ongoing attacks against those supporting Governor Lee Jae-myung in the upcoming presidential election.

Regarding the controversy over derogatory remarks towards patients in an online medical student community, a Presidential Office official expressed shock and emphasized that doctors are meant to heal wounds, not cause harm. They hoped that the majority of doctors truly prioritize the well-being of the people and do not inflict emotional harm with such offensive comments. The official expressed concerns for the emotional impact on the public caused by the inappropriate remarks made by a few doctors.
