President Yoon holds first summit with Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, “Let’s continue shuttle diplomacy”

President Yoon Seok-yeol and newly inaugurated Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba met face-to-face in Laos for the first time.

President Yoon arrived at the meeting room first, followed by Prime Minister Ishiba, and they greeted each other warmly with a handshake.

President Yoon emphasized that the positive changes in the South Korea-Japan relationship were possible due to unwavering trust between the leaders through active and close communication, including shuttle diplomacy.

Prime Minister Ishiba responded:

Although it was a courtesy call meeting, making detailed discussions on specific issues was difficult, both countries expressed their intentions to further enhance South Korea-Japan relations in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic ties next year.

President Yoon Seok-yeol previously held the South Korea-ASEAN Summit to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership.
