‘Yoon Suk-yeol President and Chairman Han Dong-hoon of the People Power Party will hold a meeting early next week. There were concerns about a possible cancellation following Chairman Han’s successive criticisms related to ‘Kim Geon-hee First Lady,’ but they have ultimately decided to meet.

Yoon and Han agreed to schedule a specific meeting after the October 16 parliamentary and by-elections, according to multiple ruling party officials on the 14th, with early next week being a likely timeframe.

Chairman Han has been continuously requesting the Presidential Office in Yongsan to create a meeting for him to meet with President Yoon. After a dinner with Yoon and the leadership of the People Power Party on September 24, Presidential office aides conveyed the need for a meeting with Chairman Han, and President Yoon accepted.

As Chairman Han has been mentioning ‘Kim Geon-hee First Lady’ almost every day ahead of the parliamentary and by-elections, this issue is expected to be a central topic during the meeting with President Yoon. When asked by reporters on the 9th about demands for ‘Ms. Kim to refrain from engaging in external activities,’ Chairman Han responded, “I also think so,” and on the 10th, in relation to suspicions of stock manipulation involving Ms. Kim at Deutsche Motors, he said, “The prosecution should present results that the public can agree with.”

Over the weekend at a campaign site for the mayoral by-elections in Geumjeong-gu, Busan, Chairman Han also emphasized the need for personnel changes in the Presidential Office to alleviate concerns and worries about Ms. Kim. He stated, “Ms. Kim is not a public figure. It is unhelpful for the public to misunderstand her as having a position in the government.” Regarding the meeting agenda, he said, “Shouldn’t we discuss various stories related to livelihood and public sentiment? The government and ruling party should reform in line with public sentiment for politics that serve the people,” expressing his views.
