The police have launched an investigation into allegations that Kim Byung-ki, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, used his position as a lawmaker to facilitate his son’s transfer to a university.

On the morning of the 15th, during a regular press conference held at the National Police Agency in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, a representative from the National Police Agency stated that a complaint regarding the allegations of the floor leader’s son transferring to Soongsil University was filed with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 11th and has been assigned to the Dongjak Police Station.

As the complaint was recently filed, the police plan to coordinate further details, such as specific summons schedules, in the future.

Previously, a media outlet raised suspicions that during the process of the floor leader’s son transferring to a contract department at Soongsil University, government officials, including a Dongjak-gu district council member and aides, were mobilized for personal purposes.

There is also a suspicion that the floor leader’s son received preferential support from a small business during this process.

Regarding these reports, floor leader Kim Byung-ki announced his intent for legal action, describing them as “typical fake news” without verifying the basic context and facts.
