[Herald Economy=Reporter Seo Jae-geun] The Swedish premium electric car brand, Polestar, announced on the 9th that it operated Polestar 4 and Polestar 2 as official support vehicles for the international cycling race ‘Tour de Gyeongnam 2025’, held from the 4th to the 8th.
The ‘Tour de Gyeongnam 2025’ is a course running a total of 553 km starting from Tongyeong, passing through Geoje, Sacheon, Namhae, and Changwon, spanning across the entirety of Gyeongsangnam-do. This event is an International Cycling Union (UCI) accredited competition, and it is the first international road cycling event held domestically in six years.
A representative from Polestar Korea explained, “The operation philosophy of a ‘green sports’ initiative aligns with the event, and to propose a new alternative to the existing internal combustion engine team car system, we introduced emission-free electric vehicles as team cars.”
Polestar Korea supported a total of 16 Polestar 4 vehicles across all sections of the event, successfully executing key roles of team cars such as strategy execution for cycling teams, athlete support, equipment transportation, and emergency response. The vehicles smoothly handled various driving environments based on stable driving performance and control, even on roads with significant elevation changes, steep curves, and coastal routes.
Polestar 4 features an interior with foldable second-row seats and ample cargo space for efficiently storing spare bikes, wheelsets, and supplies.
In addition, four Polestar 2 vehicles were supported to fulfill the roles of operational support vehicles, deployed for various purposes such as competition conduction vehicles.
Ham Jong-seong, the head of Polestar Korea, stated, “Through this Tour de Gyeongnam 2025, we demonstrated that electric vehicles can successfully perform the role of team cars on race sites, proving that they can set new standards in cycling event venues beyond mere vehicle support.” He added, “Polestar will continue to lead the future of mobility as a brand fulfilling both performance and sustainability.”
