People Power Party’s Big 4 Engage in Tension Over ‘Initiative Debate’ Rules

The People Power Party has entered the schedule for the second round of the primary election’s ‘one-on-one rival debates.’ Tensions have arisen among the candidate camps regarding the format of the debate.

The party has structured this rival debate as a ‘leading role debate’ where the candidate holding the dominant position has full control over the questions.

Candidates without the leading role naturally have limited opportunities to speak. However, the broadcasting organization in charge of the debate suggested changing the format to enable ‘interactive communication.’

The party sought opinions from the candidates on this matter. It is reported that candidate Han Dong-hoon agreed to the rule change, while Kim Moon-soo and Ahn Cheol-soo expressed a negative stance.

Candidate Hong Joon-pyo also stated that he ‘would follow the majority decision,’ leading the party to proceed with the debate as originally planned.

A representative from Han Dong-hoon’s campaign conveyed to YTN that while they are not considering boycotting the debate, doubts remain, subtly expressing dissatisfaction.
