The People Power Party criticized the attempt by the special prosecution for insurrection to raid the People Power Party’s floor leader’s office and administrative bureau, calling it “a fuss about finding a needle in a haystack.”
Chairman Jang Dong-hyeok of the People Power Party stated at the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly today (4th) that “the political special prosecution has invaded the heart of the People Power Party for two consecutive days.”
Chairman Jang mentioned the Democratic Party of Korea’s move to set up a special court for insurrection, pointing out that “it seems the Democratic Party and the political special prosecution are the ones that are currently anxious and frustrated.”
He emphasized, “The fact that they are trying to extend the special prosecution that started last winter, establish a special court because an acquittal is obvious to conduct a people’s trial, and even plan to hold public trial screenings underlines that it is clear that the ones who are anxious now are the Democratic Party and the special prosecution.”
He continued, “The People Power Party will gather at the National Assembly today with party members nationwide to condemn the special prosecution which aims to destroy the opposition and only engages in political maneuvers,” adding, “We will fight more strongly and widely with five million members.”
Song Eon-seok, the floor leader of the People Power Party, also criticized at the Supreme Council meeting, “The search and seizure warrant presented by the special prosecution completely ignores the fundamental aspects of the rule of law.”
He added, “Irrelevant items such as diaries and name cards are included in the investigation targets, and it seems like they are trying to conduct separate investigations because they cannot find any correlation between former floor leader Choo Kyung-ho and the alleged martial law. It’s ultimately about trying to falsely incriminate us.”
