Park Chan-dae: “Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung, who has fostered distrust in the judicial system, should resolve the issue by immediately appealing.”

Park Chan-dae, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, urged Prosecutor General Sim Woo-jung to “promptly file an appeal to resolve the issue he caused by fostering distrust in the judicial system and creating chaos.”

During the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 12th, Park stated, “The aftermath of the court’s decision to cancel the detention and Prosecutor General Sim’s order for release is intense. By immediately appealing and receiving a judgment from a higher court, this confusion can be neatly resolved.”

He warned, “If the prosecution ultimately decides not to appeal, suspicions of being ‘tailored for Yoon Seok-yeol’ will spread, and the prosecution must bear the stigma of being an accomplice to rebellion and providing judicial privilege.”

Park also pointed out, “The Supreme Prosecutors’ Office has instructed local prosecution offices to calculate the detention period as usual,” and criticized, “President Yoon Seok-yeol’s decision to release without appeal and maintain the detention period calculation as it is treats the public like monkeys.”

He added, “There have been past instances where the prosecution immediately appealed against detention cancellation decisions, and there are cases where an appeal was immediately filed even after the defendant was released, resulting in a successful decision.”

Lee Jae-myung, the party leader, sarcastically commented at the end of the meeting, “As a legal professional myself, the discussion about calculating the detention period is utterly absurd. Setting a single exception and then reverting back is remarkable.”
