The AI development company OpenAI unveiled its own search engine ‘SearchGPT’ and challenged Google, according to a report by Reuters on the 25th.

OpenAI announced that they are testing a prototype version of their search engine ‘SearchGPT’ for some users on the 25th local time. They also stated their plan to integrate SearchGPT into their generative AI chatbot, ChatGPT, which can respond to questions like humans.

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, mentioned on his Twitter account that “We think there is a lot of room to build a much better search than what currently exists.”

Earlier in February, there was a report by the IT media Deinformation that OpenAI was developing a web search service, drawing attention to the company.

Currently, Google dominates around 90% of the global search market. However, with the popularity of ChatGPT, it is speculated that OpenAI’s search engine could pose a threat to Google.

On the day OpenAI announced ‘SearchGPT’, the stock price of Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company, fell about 2% on the New York Stock Exchange.
