[Jeju=Newsis] Reporter Yang Young-jeon = Jeju Governor Oh Young-hoon has expressed his intention to resume the “Mandarin Sending Project,” one of the inter-Korean exchange and cooperation projects, by allocating the related budget for next year.
Governor Oh stated in a Facebook post on the 5th, “Today, I met with Unification Minister Chung Dong-young to discuss ways to promote the ‘Jeju-style inter-Korean exchange and cooperation projects’ for a new era of peace on the Korean Peninsula.”
He continued, “Jeju is preparing to resume the Mandarin Sending Project by allocating an inter-Korean exchange and cooperation fund in next year’s budget,” and added, “Minister Chung also fully agreed with and committed support for Jeju’s proposal for inter-Korean exchange projects.”
He emphasized, “At this meeting, I stressed the need to resume the Jeju Mandarin Sending Project, which was praised as ‘Vitamin C diplomacy’,” noting that “the inter-Korean exchange and cooperation projects led by Jeju mandarins have significantly contributed to improving inter-Korean relations on a civilian level.”
He further suggested, “With the success of APEC 2025 boosting our country’s diplomatic capabilities, we need to create a new trend in inter-Korean relations,” and stressed that “Jeju, which has led the improvement of inter-Korean relations, will spearhead the opening of a new era of peace on the Korean Peninsula.”
The Jeju Mandarin Sending Project, which began in 1999, was suspended after the Cheonan incident on March 26, 2010.
