Oh Se-hoon expressed significant concern that the “Jang Dong-hyuk discount” might overshadow the local elections.

Oh Se-hoon, the Mayor of Seoul, reaffirmed his stance on February 2nd, shortly after the expulsion decision of former People Power Party (PPP) leader Han Dong-hoon, by demanding the resignation of current leader Jang Dong-hyuk. He expressed significant concern that the so-called “Jang Dong-hyuk Discount” might overshadow the upcoming local elections.

After attending the ‘People Power Party-Seoul Real Estate Policy Consultation’ held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, Mayor Oh mentioned to reporters, “Our party must clearly define its relationship with former President Yoon Seok-yeol and adopt a distinct stance of ‘separation from Yoon’ (절윤) before we can appeal to the public.”

He added, “This concern is not mine alone. It is likely shared by local government heads and candidates across Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province in the metropolitan area.”

Mayor Oh further emphasized, “Most discussions focus solely on the Seoul mayoral election, but there are 25 autonomous districts in Seoul, and many heads of local governments in Gyeonggi Province are affiliated with the People Power Party. They must be feeling like their insides are burning up.”

When asked if he still maintained his demand for Jang Dong-hyuk’s resignation, Mayor Oh replied, “Nothing has changed. Unless Jang’s stance and direction change, my position cannot change either.”

He also noted, “If the ‘Jang Dong-hyuk risk’ leads to a crushing defeat for the metropolitan area in the local elections, it would be better to demand a change in direction loudly now rather than hold him accountable later. My stance on this remains unchanged.”
