Nexon and Supercat have jointly announced the termination of the development of “Hwansechwihojeon Online,” which was set for release, approximately two years after its initial unveiling.
According to industry sources on the 8th, Supercat recently disbanded the development team for “Hwansechwihojeon Online” and removed related content from its website.
“Hwansechwihojeon Online” was a reinterpretation of the IP “Hwansechwihojeon,” which was immensely popular in the past in South Korea, designed to align with modern trends. It was a mobile action role-playing game (RPG) that reimagined the original graphics using Supercat’s dot graphics.
Supercat was responsible for development while Nexon was tasked with publishing.
Nexon first introduced “Hwansechwihojeon Online” to the public in 2022. In November last year, a playable demonstration build was showcased at G-Star, the country’s largest game show, and a closed beta test (CBT) was conducted.
However, both companies explained that after considering market responses following G-Star and the CBT, they decided to discontinue development.
On the 8th, representatives from Nexon and Supercat stated, “After conducting the public test, reviewing a wide range of feedback, and engaging in in-depth discussions between the developer and the publisher, we determined it would be challenging to present a game that could satisfy users. Therefore, we have decided to terminate the project.”
Nexon and Supercat plan to focus their efforts on the stable operation of the 2020 release “The Kingdom of the Winds: Yeon” and the development of its sequel, “The Kingdom of the Winds 2.”
