“Naver’s Big Overhaul in Pursuit of Streaming Throne”

Real-Time Replay and Highlights Added
Expanded Content Including Integrated e-Sports Broadcasting

Naver’s streaming service, Chijijik, announced a major overhaul. It plans to add features offered by competing services and diversify streamers’ revenue streams to enhance both viewing experience and content. With these efforts, Chijijik aims to solidify its position as the leading domestic provider by surpassing the monthly active users (MAU) of SOOP (formerly AfreecaTV).

According to the IT industry on the 17th, Chijijik will add a “real-time replay” feature next year. This function allows viewers to go back and watch specific points even during a live broadcast. Although it is already offered by competitors like SOOP and YouTube, Chijijik was previously unable to provide it due to technical limitations. The feature will be available to “Cheat Key” monthly subscribers.

Moreover, a “replay highlight” function will be introduced to guide viewers to the most-watched scenes, similar to YouTube’s feature of highlighting the “most replayed sections.”

In addition to the innovation in viewing experience, Chijijik is also enhancing its content offerings. The broadcasting of e-sports, previously divided between Naver Sports and Chijijik, will be integrated into Chijijik sequentially. Chijijik has been broadcasting major e-sports tournaments such as the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) and other major League of Legends (LoL) events. Recently, it attracted a significant number of e-sports fans by exclusively broadcasting the 2024 League of Legends KeSPA Cup in Korean.

Along with this, streamers will be able to offer “watch together” content, where they can engage in real-time communication with viewers while watching content together. This includes a diverse range of genres from the anime “Dr. Stone” to the movie “Infernal Affairs” and even novelist Han Kang’s Nobel Prize ceremony, with additional offerings like the movie “Parasite,” “Perfect Strangers,” and animations.

To attract popular creators, streamers’ revenue sources will be diversified. By linking streamer channels with Naver’s smart store, streamers can more easily showcase their merchandise to their fans. They can also connect purchase links for smart store products during broadcasts. Chijijik’s content production support program will be revised from being available four times a year with a maximum of 30 million won per person to a maximum of six times a year.

Additionally, streamers can earn revenue if others edit their videos and upload them as Naver’s short-form content “Clips.” Chijijik officially launched in May and offers content as Clips, a vital feature for discovering streamers on Naver’s app main page. As of November, the playback and creation of Clips increased by 82% and 74% respectively compared to last year.

With this large-scale overhaul, Chijijik aims to solidify its position as the leading streaming service provider in Korea. According to Mobile Index, Naver Chijijik’s MAU reached 2.42 million, surpassing SOOP’s 2.4 million for the first time since its launch in December of last year. Chijijik has secured 148 partner streamers, with a total of 4.82 million broadcast transmissions over the past year, quickly establishing its presence.

Kim Jung-mi, leader of Naver Chijijik, stated, “We will strive to provide an even more enjoyable streaming experience through viewing experience overhaul, expanded streamer support, and maturing and diversifying content ecosystems next year.”
