Naver Webtoon Officially Sponsors ‘Lee Hyun-se’s Comic Creation Camp’ for the Ninth Consecutive Time

[Financial News] Naver Webtoon will continue to support amateur webtoon creators by officially sponsoring the ‘Lee Hyun-se Webtoon Creation Camp’ (hereafter referred to as ‘Creation Camp’) again this year.

According to Naver Webtoon on the 4th, the Creation Camp was initiated in 2001 by artist Lee Doo-ho, who was then a professor at Sejong University. He designed a ‘hell camp’ where students could focus solely on comic creation in an isolated environment. With support from Naver Webtoon in 2014, the camp expanded to universities nationwide, establishing itself as a leading webtoon creation mentoring program hosted by artist Lee Hyun-se.

Naver Webtoon is continuing its sponsorship of the Creation Camp for the 9th year. Several webtoon artists, including Im Rina of ‘Killer Badro,’ Jo Hyun-ah of ‘Love Letter,’ and Yoo Gi of ‘Deadly Real Estate,’ have participated in the camp.

The camp selects a total of 100 participants, including currently enrolled and on-leave university students and Naver Webtoon Best Challenge creators. Naver Webtoon covers the full participation fee. Over a span of 10 nights and 11 days, participants focus on creating a complete work. Distinguished figures in the Korean comic industry, such as Lee Hyun-se and Lee Doo-ho, along with leading webtoon artists, will serve as mentors, offering live mentoring by sharing their expertise and experience in creation and serialization.

Applications for participation are accepted online until April 11, and detailed information can be found on Naver Webtoon’s website announcements. The Creation Camp will be held from June 30 to July 10 at the KOBACO Training Center located in Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do.

During the camp, an exhibition will showcase the works completed by participants to webtoon and comic industry professionals, and works that receive outstanding evaluations are expected to be serialized as part of Naver Webtoon’s anthology.

Lee Jung-geun, director in charge of Korean webtoons at Naver Webtoon, stated, “We are pleased to help aspiring creators fulfill their dreams through our support of the Creation Camp,” and added, “We will prepare various opportunities to discover and support talented creators who will lead the future of Korean webtoons.”
