“Wow” Reaction to Protestors Shouting “Martial Law Legal, Impeachment Invalid”

[E-Daily’s Kang So-young] Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk reacted with surprise to protests against the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol. On January 4th, Musk commented “Wow” on a post on X (formerly Twitter) about Yoon’s supporters gathering in front of the official residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul.

The shared post showed supporters holding signs with phrases such as “Martial Law Legal! Impeachment Invalid!” and “Stop the Steal,” a phrase originating from the 2020 U.S. presidential election when Donald Trump claimed electoral fraud after his defeat to Joe Biden.

On the same day, Musk also commented “Wow, that’s a lot of police” on a post depicting the enforcement of an arrest warrant against President Yoon.

Last month on the 4th, when the Korean National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to lift martial law, Musk expressed shock, saying “Wow, that’s shocking.”

Yoon and Musk previously met in April last year at the Blair House in Washington, D.C. The presidential office stated that the meeting occurred at Musk’s request during Yoon’s visit.

Meanwhile, Musk has been named co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Donald Trump’s second U.S. administration, drawing attention for his frequent communication on X, including his ongoing interest in Korean situations. Major media outlets like AP and The Guardian have also reported in detail on the failure to execute an arrest warrant for President Yoon and the pro- and anti-impeachment protests in front of the Hannam-dong residence.
