Musk posts job listing for ‘Department of Government Efficiency’… “High IQ, 80 hours a week, unpaid”

In Donald Trump’s upcoming administration, where Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, was nominated as the head of the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE), Musk has created the ‘@DOGE’ account on X (formerly Twitter) and posted a job announcement.

Musk retweeted a post from the @DOGE account on his own X account, stating, “It begins.”

On the evening of the 12th, the first post on this account included a statement from President-elect Trump announcing the appointment of Musk, along with former Republican primary candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, as the co-heads of DOGE. On the 14th, a job announcement looking for people to work with them was posted.

The announcement stated, “We are very thankful for the thousands of Americans showing interest in helping us at DOGE,” and expressed that “we don’t need more people who can come up with ideas part-time. We need ultra-intelligent small government revolutionaries willing to work more than 80 hours a week on cost-cutting tasks.”

Musk commented on another X user’s post referencing the announcement, saying, “In reality, this is tedious work, will make many enemies, and the pay is zero. What a wonderful job!”

Previously, President-elect Trump stated that the Department of Government Efficiency would dismantle the existing federal government’s bureaucracy, reduce excessive regulations and wasteful spending, and pave the way for restructuring federal agencies.

Last month, Musk mentioned the Department of Government Efficiency, claiming that it could cut over 2 trillion dollars, approximately one-third of the current U.S. federal budget of 6.75 trillion dollars.

Initially referred to as the “Government Efficiency Committee” during Trump’s campaign proposal in September, it was later named DOGE, an abbreviation similar in pronunciation to the cryptocurrency Dogecoin that Musk is promoting. President-elect Trump also used this name in his statement on the 12th.

However, U.S. media such as NBC reported that it cannot become an official federal department without passing a law in Congress to establish such a new department, thus only holding a status as an advisory body.
