During the highest committee meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 17th, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, made a statement. In response to the People Power Party’s absence from the parliamentary schedule on the 17th, Lee criticized them for disregarding the Constitution and the National Assembly Act, saying, “They need to wake up from the illusion that they will only follow the ‘Yongsan law.”
On that day, during the highest committee meeting held at the National Assembly in the morning, Lee remarked, “Even though they are a ruling party in name, they are refusing the public sentiment of the general election and are strengthening dictatorship and incompetence.” He emphasized that “the National Assembly is the representative elected by the people. They should protect the people, not Yongsan,” and added, “I hope they return to the National Assembly before being completely rejected by the public sentiment, fulfill their responsibilities and roles.”
Lee pointed out the absurdity of the People Power Party boycotting the standing committees of the National Assembly and receiving reports from government departments in their own special committees, comparing it to a student who doesn’t go to school but calls a teacher to come to their home for private lessons, calling it unacceptable.
Park Chan-dae, the floor leader, expressed strong regret over the People Power Party rejecting the regular standing committees and creating a “fake standing committee” in the form of special committees, stating, “If the People Power Party thinks that the people will tolerate illegalities, abuses, and even fake committees, it is a big mistake and delusion.” He criticized the party members and the party itself for obstructing the work of others while not doing their own work, asking, “Why did they seize power and become National Assembly members if they dislike working?”
Park, the floor leader, urged National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik to open a plenary session and finalize the formation of the standing committees, saying, “I urge the speaker to make a decision to make the 22nd National Assembly a National Assembly that adheres to the National Assembly Act and works differently from the 21st National Assembly.”
