The Democratic Party mentioned President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment openly in the Supreme Council meeting and strongly criticized that the power of the people was indulging the forces of national overthrow.
Choi Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, pointed out in the emergency committee meeting today (23rd), “At a public meeting, a Democratic Party high-ranking official mentioned that the impeachment train is underway against the president. Are Lee Jae-myung and the opposition really going to pursue impeachment using the Chaesangbyeong case as an excuse?”
He also said, “I hope that the impeachment demands to instigate the confusion of state affairs and shake the government will stop.”
Secretary-General Seong Il-jong said, “Democratic Party’s Choi Kyung-hae, a high-ranking official, mentioned impeachment of the president at an official podium, and Choi Kyung-hae even poured fuel in the direction of impeachment. They have gone way too far. Remember that this is a government elected by the people.”
Yoo Sang-beom, a member of the opposition committee, said, “The Special Prosecutor’s Bill proposal is solely for the purpose of dragging down Yoon as a political maneuver, and it is openly revealed.”
After President Yoon exercised his right to demand re-deliberation (veto) on the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor’s Bill following the suspicion of pressure on the investigations into the Marine Corps Chae Sang-byeong death case on the 22nd, the Democratic Party raised the impeachment atmosphere.
In the Democratic Party’s high-ranking council meeting, Choi Kyung-hae directly targeted President Yoon, saying, “Why was former President Park Geun-hye impeached? The one who refuses the special prosecutor request is the criminal. So, is the one who exercises the right to refuse greater criminal?”
He added, “The fact that the special prosecutor involved refuses the right is an act that blatantly denies the constitutional system and the spirit of the constitution, and even hardens public doubts as a constitutional violation and power abuse.”
He also mentioned that “President’s impeachment seems to become a national popular saying.”
This is the first time the president’s impeachment has been mentioned at the official highest level of the Democratic Party.
