Minister Yu In-chon Inspects Safety at Two Cultural Facility Construction Sites

▲ Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Yoo In-chon is conducting a safety inspection at the restoration site of the former South Jeolla Provincial Government building in Gwangju on the 12th.

Minister Yoo In-chon will visit the Cultural Heritage Science Center at the National Museum of Korea in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, and the Tangin-ri Cultural Creation Power Plant construction site in Mapo-gu today (17th) to inspect the safety management practices.

The Cultural Heritage Science Center, set to open this October, is a facility established with 31.2 billion won invested by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to systematically preserve and manage cultural heritage using digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

The Tangin-ri Cultural Creation Power Plant project involves transforming a decommissioned power plant into a complex cultural space connected to youth culture, with construction progressing towards opening in the latter half of next year at a cost of 72.5 billion won.

Following a briefing on the progress at both sites, Minister Yoo plans to thoroughly review safety management measures in hazardous work environments prone to accidents, such as falls, collapses, fires, and explosions.

Minister Yoo stated, “Multi-cultural facilities are spaces directly linked to the lives of citizens, so we must focus on preventing safety accidents at all times with a sense of urgency,” adding, “In particular, during the thaw period from February to April, it is crucial to thoroughly inspect vulnerable facilities to prevent damage caused by ground weakening.”
