Baek Kyung-hoon, the Minister of Science and ICT, discussed measures to prevent voice phishing with the three major telecom companies, emphasizing the prevention and response to damages through artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
Minister Baek made these remarks at an on-site meeting in response to voice phishing, held with the three telecom companies, the Personal Information Protection Commission, the National Forensic Service, the Institute for Information and Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation, and the Korea Internet & Security Agency, at the KT Gwanghwamun building in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Minister Baek stated, “To maximize the preventive effect of AI against voice phishing, it is crucial to establish a foundation for data sharing and utilization,” adding that he will work with relevant departments to remove obstacles hindering data usage.
The Ministry of Science and ICT explained that they are preparing preventive measures across all stages to prevent voice phishing damages, including attempts by criminals to deceive victims and cause financial losses.
SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus plan to use the ICT regulatory sandbox system to advance detection services by utilizing real voice phishing audio information possessed by government agencies.
