Implications of Re-serving for the Duration of Service Issues if Poor Conduct Confirmed The Military Manpower Administration has requested a police investigation regarding allegations that Song Min-ho of the group WINNER, who served as a social service agent, did not fulfill his duties properly.
According to a government official on the 26th, if the police investigation confirms issues with Song’s service conduct, the Military Manpower Administration is reportedly in the position to cancel his discharge order and require him to serve again for the problematic period, even though he has already been discharged. However, the administration does not plan to conduct its own investigation.
As the controversy escalated, Oh Se-hoon, the mayor of Seoul, ordered an “emergency comprehensive investigation into the service status of social service agents in Seoul and its affiliated institutions,” stating, “We will take stern actions based on the investigation results, and, if necessary, propose institutional improvements to the Military Manpower Administration to ensure fair military duty.”
Song, who has become embroiled in the “social service agent attendance controversy,” served in a facility in Mapo-gu, Seoul, from March last year until he completed his service on the 23rd. However, media reported on the 17th that there were suspicions he did not fulfill his duties properly. It was reported that he submitted a medical certificate and took sick leave, even on his last working day.
YG Entertainment, his agency, explained at the time, “The reason for the sick leave was an extension of treatment he received before the service, and all other leave was taken in accordance with regulations.” Since his discharge, Song Min-ho has not had any official engagements. YG is expected to observe any forthcoming investigations and await the outcomes.
