[Interview③] ‘Laws of Love in the Big City’ Actor Nam Yoon-soo
By Moon Ji-yeon, Sports Chosun – Actor Nam Yoon-soo (27) shared the reason he decided to undergo a kidney transplant for his father.
On the morning of the 1st, Nam Yoon-soo met with Sports Chosun at a cafe in Jongno-gu, Seoul, for an interview about the TVING drama ‘Laws of Love in the Big City.’
Recently, Nam Yoon-soo donated a kidney to his father, earning the label of a ‘Filial Piety Icon.’ He explained, “I didn’t expect to become a ‘Filial Piety Icon’ while filming the drama. However, during one of the episodes, I learned that my dad was sick, and I realized my feelings were similar. I had no time to ponder whether to proceed with the donation. I had frequent readings and completed the donation after filming. I initially planned to do it before the shoot, but due to a medical strike, I had the surgery in June after returning from filming in Thailand.”
Nam Yoon-soo continued, “At the time, I didn’t want to reveal the surgery. I had no desire to publicize my hardship and gain personal sympathy. I just felt it was my duty.”
He added, “After the surgery, I was told smoking is absolutely prohibited, and although drinking occasionally is fine, overconsumption is not. My daily life remains the same. I was a smoker but quit. Being hospitalized for a week, the thought just didn’t occur to me. There’s a long road ahead, so it happened naturally. My dad also quit smoking because of it, and if he smokes again, I plan to show him my scar as a reminder,” he joked.
Nam Yoon-soo also said, “My dad initially advised against the surgery because I am an actor, a profession on display, but I was persistent. I lived separately at the time, and my dad watched ‘Pyeon-sto-rang’ and would cry. However, once the surgery ended, he stopped crying. We lived together for a while after the surgery, but now, because of my work, we live separately.”
‘Laws of Love in the Big City’ is a youth romance about writer Go Young (played by Nam Yoon-soo), who learns about life and love through various encounters. The drama, based on the bestselling novel of the same name, distributes each episode to four directors who complete it as a film-like series. Directors Heo Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Tae-gyeom, and Kim Se-in directed each episode, respectively.
