**LG Uplus Forms Strategic Partnership with AWS to Foster AI Cloud Ecosystem**
LG Uplus announced on the 10th that it has formed a strategic partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), the leader among global cloud service providers (CSPs), to cultivate an AI cloud ecosystem in Korea.
The partnership, which was sealed at the MWC25 event in Barcelona, Spain, involves collaborative efforts on several fronts, including the development of a Korean sovereign cloud, AI platforms and solutions, and AI consulting.
The first step in the ‘AX Alliance’ strategy will be the joint development of a ‘Korean Sovereign Cloud’ to support the transformation of local public, financial, and advanced enterprises. This sovereign cloud will comply with South Korean laws and regulations, ensuring data sovereignty through local data storage, processing, and management, thereby enhancing the control and autonomy of domestic companies over their data.
Additionally, LG Uplus and AWS plan to optimize LG Uplus’s small language model ‘ixi-GEN’ and AWS’s large language model ‘Nova’ to facilitate rapid AI service adoption among Korean enterprise clients by co-developing the Work Agent.
The partnership will also see LG Uplus advance its AI-based predictive recommendation algorithms using AWS’s platform to enhance its AI Contact Center (AICC) into a more sophisticated ‘Customer Agent’.
Moreover, LG Uplus will participate as a domestic expert partner in AWS’s Generative AI Innovation Center (GenAIIC). The companies expect to extend their partnership beyond AI to become a specialized consulting partner for sovereign-specific cloud services such as data security.
Kwon Yong-hyun, Head of Business at LG Uplus, emphasized the importance of the collaboration with AWS, promising that it will resolve key pain points for Korean companies in their AX transformation efforts and strengthen the company’s competitive edge in the AX market. He also highlighted the commitment to collaborate with leading global partners in driving this competitive advantage.
Jens Nagarajan, head of AWS communications in the Asia Pacific and Japan, highlighted the significance of the partnership in accelerating digital transformation and AI adoption in Korea. He expressed optimism about developing solutions that enable Korean companies to fully leverage the potential of cloud and AI technologies.
