Legal consultation AI reduces time by 50%… KT launches ‘AI Legal System’

KT announced on the 21st that it is officially incorporating AI technology into its legal system to enhance legal operations and strengthen compliance management. As part of accelerating AICT, KT has applied AI learning to its legal system, which is used in litigation and legal advisory tasks, based on approximately 100,000 cases of business-related litigation, contracts, and advisory data it has accumulated.

The litigation system focuses on building a big data infrastructure and automating litigation administration tasks by creating a database of relevant documents such as complaints, briefs, and judgments. This, the company explained, allows for systematic management by enabling integrated searches and type-specific analysis across the entire legal field.

Furthermore, KT implemented functions for automatic linkage with Supreme Court case searches to synchronize litigation record information and deadline calendars, as well as batch management of different levels of cases or related cases.

In the legal advisory sector, the system automatically recommends similar cases during crucial tasks like contract reviews and legal consultation, and includes AI-based draft advisory creation and contract comparison functions. It also features capabilities to summarize contract contents or categorize them by clauses.

The newly introduced AI legal system has resulted in more than a 50% reduction in processing time due to the decrease in manual work involved in managing litigation cases. Legal advisory tasks also saw a reduction in time required by over 30% thanks to features like automatic similar advisory recommendations and pre-review of contracts.

KT stated that they will continue to train the system with accumulated data to automatically detect excessively unfavorable clauses such as damaging indemnification responsibilities, legally ambiguous terms, and unnecessary provisions during contract reviews and notify the responsible person. They also plan to implement functions like a “pre-contract checklist” as part of evolving their legal system.
