Lee Jun-seok: “Establishing an assembly and office in Sejong… Decentralizing the capital region and enhancing administrative efficiency.”

Reform Party’s presidential candidate Lee Jun-seok announced today (21st) that if elected, he will immediately establish both the National Assembly and his presidential office in Sejong City following his inauguration.

After greeting citizens on their way to work in Sejong today, Lee met with reporters and said, “The vision we have for Sejong City is to achieve the decentralization of the capital region and enhance efficiency through the concentration of administrative functions.”

Lee stated, “If we promptly construct the National Assembly and the presidential office in Sejong, we could begin the Sejong era within the term of the next president,” adding, “Transferring the president’s official residence from Hannam-dong to Sejong in itself holds significant meaning. We will expedite the process as much as possible.”

He also mentioned that, “Until then, a temporary small-scale office will be set up and used at the Government Complex Seoul,” noting, “Since the Government Complex Seoul was originally designed to serve as offices for various key figures, it can be readily utilized.”

Lee emphasized that establishing the National Assembly and office in Sejong is about more than just relocating workspaces. “It signifies a transformation in Korea’s political culture,” he said. He expressed his hope that Sejong could evolve into a space for genuine cooperation by integrating legislative and executive branches, thus eliminating separation-induced disconnection.
