[Financial News] On the 13th, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, stated, “Fake news is the enemy of democracy. No matter what it takes, it must be eradicated.”
During the supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly this morning, Lee mentioned, “A democratic republic stands properly when citizens have accurate information and make accurate judgments.”
He added, “If distorted by false and fake information, citizens’ judgment crumbles, and the democratic republic collapses. Yet, some people exploit this gap to spread all kinds of fake news, distort facts, obscure the truth, and present themselves as virtuous to the public despite being corrupt and dishonest.”
Lee further emphasized, “Even at this moment, false claims are being shamelessly spread in chat rooms, saying things like my late father who passed away decades ago was involved in communist activities and killed countless people, fled without paying for cigarettes, or was imprisoned for sexual assault when I was young. Yet, those who spread such fake news do so without taking responsibility, profiting while counterattacking any objections to fake news as if there’s an issue,” questioning, “Is KakaoTalk a sanctuary for fake news? Are they leaving it unchecked?”
He declared, “Those who are deceived by fake news and make wrong judgments are also victims,” and stated that the Democratic Party will “fully mobilize our resources to strictly hold accountable those who cause disorder in this country by relying on and thriving on fake news, ensuring that such activities are eradicated from our society.”
