▲ Senior Secretary for Public Relations and Communication Lee Kyu-yeon is giving a briefing on President Lee Jae-myung’s state affairs at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the 31st.
Lee Kyu-yeon, the Senior Secretary for Public Relations and Communication, responded to a question about ‘communication’ in the Lee Jae-myung administration, saying, “(President Lee scores) 99 points, and combining the role of the Public Relations Secretary and the Office, it would be about 59.5 points,” during an interview on the MBC radio show “Kim Jong-bae’s Focus” today (the 3rd).
When asked to define President Lee’s communication style, the secretary remarked, “It’s reminiscent of Socrates’ conversations,” and praised it as “a form of dialogue that’s not authoritarian and is non-violent.”
Regarding the relatively low score for the Secretary’s Office, Lee explained, “The President is excellent at communication. I’m struggling to keep up.”
On the Democratic Party’s push for punitive damages against the media, Lee noted, “The decision to apply punitive damages to the media has not been made yet.”
He added, “In his statements, the President did not specifically mention ‘media’ but pointed out issues with false and manipulated information several times.”
Lee mentioned a recent claim by some YouTubers that North Korea had released nuclear waste, raising radiation levels on the West Coast. He stated, “The President took this very seriously. The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission conducted tests and found no issues. But these people keep creating such information to earn money through views, which damages public trust. Didn’t the President say such outlets should be shut down?”
He emphasized, “However, he never suggested applying punitive damages solely against the media.”
When asked whether it would be problematic to apply punitive damages related to reports against the government or politicians, Lee responded, “While there is consensus regarding large corporations, including politicians in this requires cautious consideration.”
He concluded, “I am not completely against it, but we need to approach this aspect very carefully and listen broadly.”
