Kwon Seong-dong: “Supplementary budget includes disaster response reserve funds reduced by the opposition.”

On the morning of the 25th, Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, spoke at a strategy meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul. He stated, “We will include the 2 trillion won of disaster response reserve funds, which the Democratic Party cut last year, in the upcoming supplementary budget to restore the national safety net.”

After making this statement at the parliamentary strategy meeting, he added, “We will promptly convene a high-level party policy meeting to officially commence discussions on regular responses and the supplementary budget.”

Kwon mentioned that over 100 houses have been completely destroyed across the nation, including in Uiseong and Sancheong, Gyeongsangbuk-do, explaining, “As confirmed through this disaster, disaster reserve funds are essential for rapid response to unforeseen disasters.”

He also identified the formation of the tripartite council consisting of the ruling party, opposition, and government, as well as a special committee for pension reform, as major tasks. He urged, “The tripartite council should be immediately operational,” and demanded, “The Democratic Party should cease all strategic fights outside parliament and return to the National Assembly immediately.”

Additionally, he emphasized, “We need to swiftly organize the pension reform committee and begin fair structural reforms for future generations,” highlighting that “raising the basis is just the start of pension reform, and we should now begin comprehensive discussions to complete the reforms.”

Kwon urged the Democratic Party to stop outside protests and return to the National Assembly. He further criticized, “The impeachment motion against Acting President Han Deok-soo was dismissed,” suggesting that “instead of apologizing profusely, they are already pressuring the appointment of Constitutional Court judge candidate Ma Eun-hyuk, hinting at the possibility of a re-impeachment.”
