KT announced on the 23rd that it has received international certification for Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) based on ISO/SAE 21434 for software-based mobility solutions. ISO/SAE 21434 is an international standard that defines cyber security processes and requirements from software design to development, testing, and production stages of automobiles. KT was evaluated by UL Solutions, a global product safety certification organization, as meeting the cyber security standards for software-based mobility solutions.
With the ongoing occurrence of overseas cases utilizing hacking and other cyber threats for theft and operation disruption, security capabilities have become increasingly important. KT is currently operating various software-based mobility solutions such as in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) and traffic control solutions utilizing AI-powered data analysis and AX capabilities. Therefore, cyber security readiness is essential.
Regarding cyber security management systems, Europe will require certification for launching new vehicles in 56 contracting countries from July 2022, and regulations will apply to all vehicles produced and sold from July this year. In Korea, the obligation to implement a cyber security management system was announced with the amendment of the Automobile Management Act in February this year, which is set to be enforced starting from the second half of 2025.
KT demonstrated its internal security capabilities through this cyber security software output, management system, and vehicle mock hacking tests, receiving top ratings for its IT security policy for internally owned networks and platforms. With this, KT has met international security requirements for mobility software security and capabilities to respond to automotive cyber threats.
Choi Kang-rim, head of KT’s Mobility Business Unit, stated, “KT is developing and applying various technologies based on AICT to provide mobility services and solutions, including software solutions within vehicles and data-based vehicle quality issue analysis.” He added, “As we approach the era of software-driven vehicles, KT will develop and provide software solution services that are globally secure and optimized for customer requirements.”
