KT collaborates with KEPCO and Seoul National University on joint development and demonstration of ‘Power-Specialized AI’.

KT has announced on the 20th that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Korea Electric Power Corporation and Seoul National University to develop and demonstrate AI specialized for the power industry. The signing ceremony was attended by key representatives from the three institutions, including KT’s CEO Kim Young-seop, Korea Electric Power’s President Kim Dong-chul, and Seoul National University’s President Yoo Hong-lim. This collaboration aims to strengthen future competitiveness in the energy industry through AX (Artificial Intelligence Experience).

The main areas of cooperation include the development and demonstration of power industry-specialized AI solutions and security systems based on ‘Hybrid Cloud’, identifying new business models combining power and AI, undertaking joint R&D of core technologies, and nurturing talent and supporting innovative companies in the power and AI fields. This partnership is expected to serve as a breakthrough in accelerating innovation in the power industry during the energy transition era.

KT is focusing on building an AI security system that complies with government security guidelines, such as network separation for public institutions. KT’s hybrid cloud-based architecture controls access according to data importance, enhancing security. Measures like encryption and real-time monitoring systems are in place to prevent information leakage during data exchange between internal and external networks. These efforts ensure the reliability and usability of data for AI solutions while protecting sensitive data securely.

Additionally, KT is partnering with Microsoft to apply a Korea-specific AI to discover new business models that integrate power and AI. The Korea-specialized AI, characterized by high precision and accurate analysis of user intentions, serves as a key to developing AI models tailored to customers. KT plans to continuously optimize AI models utilizing KT AI Studio, known for its excellent compatibility with various large language models.

In the future, the three institutions plan to expand their collaboration scope to include innovative ventures and startups, aiming to develop AI-specialized energy solution business models and explore joint entry into international markets. Through these efforts, they aspire to enhance the global competitiveness of Korea’s power industry and contribute to creating a future growth engine for the nation.

Kim Dong-chul, President of Korea Electric Power, emphasized the need to actively seek opportunities in the era of AI-based energy ecosystem transformation and future advancement. He stated that the cooperation of the three institutions through this agreement could position Korea’s power industry as a First Mover in the global energy market.

Yoo Hong-lim, President of Seoul National University, highlighted the essential role of power systems in the national economic infrastructure during the AI transformation era, expressing the hope that the collaboration will promote innovation in the power industry via AI technology, accelerating AX throughout the nation’s industries.

KT’s CEO Kim Young-seop expressed confidence that the combined capabilities of KT, Korea Electric Power, and Seoul National University would trigger the true spread of AX in the public domain. He reiterated KT’s commitment to actively support the AX of the national power industry and lead the acceleration of AX in other national industries as an accelerator.
